In case anyone here doesn’t know, I’m pursuing a master’s degree with the Mythgard Institute at Signum University. This is a totally online institute that offers courses in fantasy, science fiction, and medieval literature for students and auditors. Things are getting along – I’m finishing up my last credit course this spring, and will spend the summer and fall writing my thesis. The course content offered and caliber of faculty associated with this program are consistently impressive, so I thought I’d link to what’s coming up in the near future.
Mythgard’s summer courses have just been announced, both of which are brand new. Dr. Corey Olsen (The Tolkien Professor) will be teaching a course dedicated to Tolkien’s poetry. Dr. Amy H. Sturgis will delve into the eerie canon of H.P. Lovecraft. Having taken multiple courses with both, I highly recommend them. Check out the promotional videos below for a taste.
Also coming up is the first in the Mythgard Academy’s free guest lecture series. Tolkien scholar and Anglo-Saxonist Dr. Michael Drout will speak on “Lexomic Analysis of Beowulf and Tolkien’s Scholarship on the Poem: A Confluence.” This is free and open to the public online. Check out more info and register here.
